„What a lovely thing a rose is!“ – Arthur Conan Doyle
At the beginning of this school year (2016/17), the PTA and the Student Council began a gardening project at JIES. Our aim is not only to create a colorful, fragrant and lively environment in front of the school but also give our kids an opportunity to get their hands into the soil and explore the joy of creating a garden.
During the first weeks of the project we did a lot of weeding and cleaning and planted the first year-round plants, like the Christmas rose and some ground cover plants. Now we are waiting for the first tulips and narcissus to bloom.
We hope to grow more than flowers in our little garden. We will also set up a little green house to grow strawberries and some small vegetables, which we will harvest before the summer break. If you have any seeds or little unused plastic pots, we are happy to use them for our veggie garden.
Although it takes a lot of time to care for the garden, we are very happy with the progress and hope that you enjoy our little project the same as we do.
Best regards,Mareike Hornburg
